ENDLESS at Les Moulins De Paillard, Poncé-sur-le-Loir, France This experiment explores themes of order and disorder, the old and the new, and behavioral, visual and temporal patterns. Doodles on the grid of an old notebook--the type used in Soviet Union elementary schools-- challenge the authority of the visual grid and other rigid systems. Pages of the notebook are drawn over and over until the grid is gone and the page is rendered useless. As this process, in itself an act of destruction, passes into a new digital medium, new patterns evolve. The video breaks down on itself, randomized in time and two-dimentional space through programming. New temporal qualities are acquired, and order emerges from the video loop frames--a grid of images. Each time a new idea is passed back and forth from the physical to the digital, in essence continually destroyed and reborn, chaos and order engage in never-ending feedback |
